School Supply Round-Up
When the school year comes to an end, so do many usable, functional school supplies. Every year the Let’s Talk Trash team endeavors to facilitate a School Supply Round-Up — a reduce and reuse challenge! Through collaboration with each school’s ‘Green Team’ as well as parent volunteers, we aim to recover and divert as many usable school supplies as possible from ending up in the trash. If you would like to help with this program, we are looking for as many volunteers as possible to help out on the ‘collection’ day at each school.
For more information please read the School Supply Round-Up Program.

The Let’s Talk Trash team has partnered with Destination Conservation to deliver waste reduction curriculum to schools in Powell River throughout the 2011/2012 school year. The Let’s Talk Trash team has also visited 12 schools in our community to assess existing recycling programs. As a result, a recycling package for schools was created to encourage schools to consider ways to improve recycling and waste reduction on their campuses.
As most schools in our district are avid composters, our team has put together a brief introductory vermicomposting guide (worm composting). for those classrooms who would like to bring the learning inside. And don’t forget that the Let’s Talk Trash team hosts the Community Compost Education Centre. Our centre is available for school field trips, if you are interested please get in touch with us and we will schedule your class in!
