Recent news articles have been touting that microplastic fibers may be the biggest environmental problem that our oceans are facing. Ecologist Mark Browne released and published a study in 2011 regarding his work on multiple continents in the field of microplastic fibers and more importantly, around a source of sewage outflows. Evidence shows these fibers are from clothes and the study indicates that a synthetic garment can release 1900 or more microplastic fibers per wash! To bring some light to the situation we highlight two trash artists, one of which is making diamond rings out of smog!

Tune us in to clarify issues surrounding the new recycling program that launched this May 20th. Hear an interview with Allen Langdon, the managing director for Multi-Material BC, creator of the new province wide printed paper and packaging recycling program as well as comment from depot staff workers and from some members of the public.
Let’s talk recycling changes. Multi-Material BC will arrive in Powell River on May 20th. We urge you to tune in to stay up to date! New recycling depot in Lund and access to all depots will become restricted. Check out the new program and list of accepted items at recyclinginbc.ca.
Industrial, commercial or institutional operators (ICI), as of May 20, will have to manage their recyclables by a commercial contractor, eg. Sunshine Disposal and Recycling or Augusta Recyclers.
